Chesterfield to Cumberland: the king will not make any promotions to general officer, but does not object to the promotion of major generals to lieutenant general and of brigadier generals to major general. Some German officers are still prisoners, and the king will release French prisoners in England when these have been freed. Dated (OS) at Whitehall. ff. 283, 284
