Newcastle to Cumberland: the pretender's son embarked at Nantes on 15 July NS and is thought to be bound for Scotland. The proper orders have been sent to Sir John Cope. Transports will be sent to Veere in Zealand, to be ready to embark 10,000 troops. He encloses an extract from a letter from Charles Stuart, the conservator there, to the marquess of Tweeddale [SP 87/19/149], and two from Chanclos. Two battalions and ordnance stores have been sent to Ostend. Reports that the French intend to sent a large detachment from Flanders to the Rhine. Belle-Isle and his brother, having signed a declaration, will shortly leave for Calais. Cumberland should send a copy of the declaration to Saxe.
