Newcastle to Fawkener (private): the public's admiration for Cumberland's conduct [at Fontenoy]. Albemarle and Ligonier deserve the good reports of them. He mourns the loss of Colonel Carpenter. He is confident the king will approve Cumberland's recommendations. Cumberland should expose himself less to danger. Dated (OS) at Whitehall. ff. 341-343
