Forwards report of a 'severe storm' [hurricane?] on 9 September 1875. An estimated 12 inches of rain caused flooding, Kingstown was almost submerged with one house swept away, and in the village of Mesopotamia fourteen houses were wrecked with the loss of four lives. A further five people died at Queensbury. Crops and farm machinery were destroyed, and a several boats driven from their moorings and washed ashore. Reports that the Legislature has voted £300 for the relief of people who had lost their homes and their means of livelihood, and a further £500 for the repair of roads. With a list of 52 men and women granted relief, most from the village of Mesopotamia.
