Appointment of Mr McDonnell to Ceylon: reports that Mr McDonnell has accepted the post in the Ceylon Public Works Department offered by the Secretary of State, but forwards letter from him in defence of his professional reputation in which he states that despite the collapse of two bridges built under his supervision, his increased knowledge of local conditions has resulted in the building of two additional bridges whose strength has been adequately tested by a storm considered to be the worst in 40 years.
