Reference
SC 8/60/2998
Date
[c. 1324]
Description
Petitioners
Thomas Mauduyt (Mauduit) of Warminster.
Name(s)
Mauduyt (Mauduit), Thomas
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Mauduyt requests a remedy as he was wrongfully imprisoned in the castle of Salisbury in the 16th year of the king's reign by the procurement of Daune and the abetment of Berenger for that he was one Thomas Mauduyt and party of the quarrel of the earl of Lancaster. Whilst he was in prison he was forced to make a fine of an annual rent for the following six years in Sussex. Daune should have satisfied the king for all manner of actions and demands, but once he had possession did not wish to do so, so that Maunduyt is in arrears.
Nature of endorsement
He should have a writ of trespass formed upon the contents.
Places mentioned
Salisbury, [Wiltshire]
Warminster, [Wiltshire].
People mentioned
Michael Daune
Ingram Berenger
[Thomas of Lancaster], Earl of Lancaster.
Note
The petition dates to c. 1324 when a writ was directed to the keeper of the lands in the king's hand in Wiltshire to deliver to one John Mauger the lands of Manduit (CCR 1323-7, p.61). The petition may be earlier as it concerns the aftermath of the Lancaster rebellion, and 1324 seems a little late for suspected rebels to be arrested.
