Copy of the record of the imprisonment of Helen Merchant for assisting in the escape of Peyntour, a Scot, from the gaol of Newcastle where he had been delivered into the custody of the sheriff of Northumberland by Glenkarny who had been granted his ransom.
Nature of endorsement
She should have a writ in Chancery to make the body and the indictment come before the king.
Places mentioned

Helen [Marchaunt (Merchant)], wife of John Marchaunt

John le Peyntour

John de Fenwyk (Fenwick), Sheriff of Northumberland.
Note
The petition is ascribed the date 1319-23 by Fraser (Northumberland Petitions, pp.67-8) based on the dates of Fenwick's period as sheriff. Although he did have a second term as sheriff from 1325-7, there is no reason to question this date, and no evidence to date it more precisely.
