Note
Datable to c. 1282-c. 1300 with reference to SC 8/60/2978. The first charter is dated to 1155 in GEC Complete Peerage, VIII, p.531, following the Som. Arch. Soc. article, which cites the Itinerary of Henry II. The mention of Thomas Beckett is as chancellor (1153-62) rather than Archbishop of Canterbury (1162-70). Roger Earl of Gloucester appears to have died in 1155.The second charter is dated 13 April 1194. Richard was at Silverstone in Northamptonshire on 12 April, Woodstock on 13 April and Fremantle (Kingsclere, Hampshire) on 14 April, and hence 'Watham' is presumably somewhere along on this route. It may be Wootton in Oxfordshire or Wytham in Berkshire, but has not been firmly identified. Neither charter appears in any current lists of Henry II or Richard I acta.
