Places mentioned
Overstone, Northamptonshire
York.
People mentioned
Christina de Mareis (Marish).
Note
The petition appears to date to c. 1316. The executors had the holding of three manors after Christiana's death and surrendered two of them for an extended tenure in the manor of Overstone. The executors leased the manor to one Robert de Appelby who ejected them and wasted the manor whereby it was taken into the king's hand (CPR 1313-17 p.564; CIM 1307-49, no.291). The king granted them compensation to be taken at the Exchequer for which a writ was issued on 16 November 1316 (CPR 1313-17, p.564). It would appear that the petition postdates this, as the petitioners make no mention of the problems with Appelby, and are presumably complaining of the failure of the treasurer and chamberlain to comply with the writ.
