Nature of request
The petitioners request that it be ordained that they be able to have the tenth part of the victuals and the arrears according to the purport of their charter. Henry III granted and confirmed to them by his charter for their sustenance that when the king and his heirs come to the town of Marlborough and all the time that they stay there the petitioners should have a tenth of the bread, ale, fish and meat of the of the first mess of the Household. They had this until the last coming of the king when Tauton did not wish to give it without the advisement of the king and his council.1)

Coram rege.2) Let this petition be handed over into Chancery and when the charter has been viewed there, and the treasurer called there to explain the detention of this to the monks, and the remembrances of the Wardrobe searched as the thing has been used, the Chancellor is to do justice by good council.
