Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/60/2970
Date
[c. 1387]
Description
Petitioners
Robert Manfeld, clerk, Provost of Beverley.
Name(s)
Manfeld, Robert
Addressees
King.
Occupation
Provost of Beverley
Nature of request
Manfeld requests due remedy considering that if he does not have a remedy in the present parliament he is without recovery forever. Holme had accused Manfeld of involvement in the treason of the late archbishop of York and duke of Ireland in the parliament held at Westminster. By colour of this accusation and with the power of the duke of Gloucester, Holme at the time of the parliament by compulsion and violence made Manfeld give and release certain tenements in York to the value of 10 marks per annum which he still occupies in prejudice and to the great wrong of Manfeld.
Nature of endorsement
Provest.
Places mentioned
Beverley, [East Riding of Yorkshire]
Westminster
York.
People mentioned
Thomas Holme, Citizen of York
Alexander Nevill (Neville), late Archbishop of York
Robert Veer (Vere), Duke of Ireland
[Thomas of Woodstock], Duke of Gloucester.
Note
The petition dates to c. 1387 as the petition clearly refers to the de Vere as being the late duke of Ireland, and he fell from power in 1387 before the Appellants. The references on the guard are unfortunately not relevant and simply show that Manfeld was a provost at Beverley and active in 1387.
