Nature of request
Lyndwode requests that he be able to have a writ to the bishop of Lincoln that his church of Wilsford be newly assessed for tax, and that he is able to be discharged so that he is not charged beyond the true value of his church. His church had been assessed during the time of his predecessor at a high rate out of the hatred that the taxers had for the parson who was an alien, and Lyndwode is charged by many impositions so that he cannot support himself from the profits of his church.

Because the taxation that was made by the authority of the Pope it is considered by the council that he ought not to pay it at present.

Dated on the guard to 1318 by reference to m 22 of E 175/1, a list of petitioners to the 1318 parliament. The grants of protection in CPR 1317-21 pp. 378 and 517 (April 1319 and November 1320) may have been issued in response to this petition.
