Description
Petitioners
Adam de Lymbergh, former constable of Bordeaux.
Name(s)
de Lymbergh, Adam
Addressees

Occupation

Nature of request
Lymbergh requests that the king have regard for the great mischiefs that he has suffered for the king's profit and that he has been disturbed in the rendering of his account by the intransigence of the counter-roller and his executors, and by the war with the king of France whereby parts of the duchy have been overrun whereby much of the issues have not been collectable. He further requests that taking this into account and that he will have no profit if the account is not rendered, that he will order the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer that they not wait for the arrival of the counter-roll that may never come, that they proceed to audit his account and that he only be charged for what he received, and those who haven't accounted or cannot be held to account should be answerable to the king.
Nature of endorsement
Because the council is advised that the king is able to have great profit by the rendering of the account, it is agreed that it be ordered by writ of the great seal to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer that they begin to hear the account, and that they make further orders by writ of the Exchequer to the seneschal of Gascony to make the executors come with the counter-roll at a certain day in the Exchequer or send the counter-roll under the seneschal's seal on the same day. If they and the roll do not come on this day then in regard that Lymbergh has suffered much for the king and his ancestors the treasurer and barons are to proceed to final discussion of the account according to the oath and the assertions of Lymbergh, and not awaiting the coming of the counter-roll charging the ministers and receivers that have not accounted or cannot be brought to justice to account with Lymbergh and answer to the king for their offices in discharge of Lymbergh, saving that Lymbergh be charged for what he has received through their hands, provided always that the process be made to make the counter-roll come, and his account is to be rehearsed and examined it if comes.
