SC 8/59/2940
Date
[1327-1334]
Description
Petitioners
Anthony de Lucy and John de Multon of Egremont.
Name(s)
de Lucy; de Multon, Anthony; John
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Anthony de Lucy and John de Multon of Egremont state that Anthony and John's father petitioned the king's father in his ninth year for the manor of Radstone, and the process continued on this until John's father's death, when Anthony and John begun their suit again, against John de Claveryng, to whom the king's father had granted the manor for term of life. The suit is still pending and the king has granted the reversion of the manor to Robert de Ardern and his heirs, to their disinheritance. They ask that this grant might be repealed, and that justice might be done to them.
Nature of endorsement
This petition is to be sent before the prelates, earls and barons who have been appointed to oversee the gifts made by the king, and they are to advise the king.
Places mentioned
Egremont, [Cumberland]
Rodeston (Radstone), Northamptonshire.
People mentioned
[Name illegible] de Multon, father of John de Multon
[Name illegible] Fortz
John de Claveryng
Geoffrey le Scrop (le Scrope)
Robert de Ardern.
Note
Dated on the guard to 'c.1334' with reference to CPR 1330-4 pp.512 and 522, a grant made on 1 March 1334, of the manor of Bricesbury to William Trussel, who has petitioned to say that he is disturbed in his possession of the manor of Radstone by the claim of the petitioners. This would appear to be from a later stage in the proceedings, as Trussel's name is not mentioned in this petition, but from the references to the king's father and to Geoffrey le Scrope would seem to be from the reign of Edward III.
