Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/59/2931
Date
[c. 1295]
Description
Petitioners
Robert de Loundres (London), Sheriff of Snowdon (Sheriff of Caernarfonshire).
Name(s)
de Loundres (London), Robert
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
Sheriff of Snowdon (Sheriff of Caernarfonshire)
Nature of request
Robert de Loundres states that Roger de Kaleston held of him the manor of Littlecote for a fee, so that wardship and marriage ought to belong to him, and that, after Roger's death he was given the wardship but not the marriage. He requests an answer, as he has spent so much on his suit that he can sue no longer, and as he is in the king's service as Sheriff of Snowdon.
Nature of endorsement
The inquisitions which have been returned are to be examined.
Places mentioned
Littlecote, [Wiltshire]
Snaudoune (Snowdon), [Caernarfonshire, Wales].
People mentioned
Roger de Kaleston (Calstone).
Note
The petitioner was sheriff of Caernarfonshire from 16 February 1295. He was no longer sheriff at Easter 1301, but from the List of Sheriffs it appears that he had probably ceased to serve some time before that. The fact that he mentions his office as a reason for wanting a settlement of this matter now suggests that the petition dates from shortly after his appointment.CCR 1288-96 p.227 is dated 16 April 1292.The writ for CIPM, vol. III no.12 is dated 28 February 20 Edward I (1292).
