Description
Petitioners
Not specified
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The petitioner or petitioners complain that because the Sheriffs of London do not hold their courts often enough, the goods and chattels of non-Londoners are maliciously being seized and held for too long, greatly harming their owners. They ask the King to ordain and command that the Sheriffs might henceforth hold their courts every day or every other day, as they ought to, without excuses.
Nature of endorsement
Nothing can be done by the council.
Places mentioned
London.
People mentioned
Sheriffs of London.
Note
Dated on the guard to '? 1321' with reference to SC 8/59/2923 and SC 8/59/2922. The language and the hand of these three petitions seems similar, and indeed the row of holes for rulings in the left margin of each petition, stretching from top to bottom of the parchment, suggests that they were once part of a single membrane.
