Arnold Loup states that in the course of a law-suit between him and Thomas Elyot, concerning a messuage with appurtenances near the Tower of London, he was wrongly placed in default by the actions of a clerk named William de Pokelyngton, who agreed with his attorney to enter his essoin and then deceitfully did not do so. William has been convicted of this, and is in prison. Arnold requests the king's grace that the default may be quashed and he may be restored to the same status as he was on the day on which the default was entered, or that the prisoner might remain in prison until he has satisfied Arnold for the damage caused by the default.

A Latin summary of this petition is entered on the Exchequer Parliament Roll SC 9/2 (Rot. Parl. vol. I, p.58b, no. 155) whose heading states that it contains petitions from the Michaelmas parliament of 18 Edward I (1290), but which Richardson and Sayles assign to the Easter parliament of 1290 (The English Parliament in the Middle Ages, XIX, pp.146-7).Two references to this case from 1288 can be found in CPR 1281-92 pp.303 and 308.
