Nature of request
The petitioner seeks recovery of his armour and chattels and compensation for damages and for his imprisonment in Oakham Castle, of £100. He shows that Newbottle was with him at the time of the last arrival of the queen and duke (the king's son) from overseas, to have good clothes and armour for their bodies against their enemies and the enemies of the land. Whence came Newbottle and his retinue who are traitors, and stole his armour and imprisoned the petitioner in Oakham Castle until he was released by ransom through sufficient mainprise, and is still under mainprise and his armour still detained to his damage of £100.
