Nature of request
The petitioner shows that his uncle served the king well and loyally many times, and guarded well the king's rights as provost of Saintes and Montendre in France. He was taken by other Frenchmen and held in their prison for more than forty weeks. The king ordered a regard for the return of the provost, but he died before it was set. The petitioner asks the king to order by his letters to the seneschal of Saintonge, that Pierre Tarzat, lately treasurer of Saintonge, grant dower for the maintenance of his (Garant's) wife and daughter, and that Tarzat and the seneschal together grant the petitioner sufficient regard for the said daughter.
