Description
Petitioners
Robert de Leukenore (Lewknor).
Name(s)
de Leukenore; Lewknor, Robert
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The petitioner seeks justice, recovery of his chase at Beaulieu, and compensation for money extorted from him and his son by John de Handle and Despenser. Thomas Blaket came to him from Handle, John Blaket, and John de Adingrave, informing him that they had killed his dear and taken his venison in his park of Beaulieu and that he views the same. He came there and John Blaket and John Adingrave had letters from Handle for taking the park and chase etc., granted after Despenser returned from exile overseas and encroached upon the royal power and lordship. With Despenser's aid and maintenance, Handle sued the petitioner, that he had damaged his [Handle's] park and took his venison and robbed his manors to his damage of £3000, and pursued the petitioner by oyer and terminer until the point of outlawry and menaced him and John his son until they were in danger of life and limb, such that his son granted Despenser £41 because he was with Henry Tyes in the dispute. The petitioner was threatened of life and limb, and of disinheritance by Handle until he made fine with him of fifty marks wrongfully, which he paid to his great hardship.
