Description
Petitioners
John de Loudhaum (Ludham), brother and heir of Robert de Loudhaum (Ludham).
Name(s)
de Loudhaum (Ludham), John
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
The petitioner seeks recovery of the ferry from St Olaves in Herringfleet to Haddiscoe. He states that John atte Frere was seised of the ferry, and his ancestors before him from time without memory. John granted the ferry to Robert de Loudhaum, knight, and his heirs. From Robert, who died without heirs, the ferry descended to Roger, who died seised; the ferry then descended to Roger de Loudhaum, knight, who died seised; then to Roger who also died without heirs; then to Robert who died without heirs; then to the petitioner, who remained seised until the king's grandfather, without inquest, information, or notice, removed him and took the ferry into his hands through Middleton the escheator, and granted the same to Chirbury to hold for his life. After Chirbury's death the king's grandfather granted the ferry by charter to Felbrigg for his life, and the petitioner summoned him, which plea went to the chancellor who heard his complaint and ordered that right and reason demanded repeal of the charter and the return of the ferry.
Nature of endorsement
Let him have this petition mandated in chancery and summon those concerned with the king's sergeants [and] then let right be done.
