Nature of request
The petitioner asks the king to order that certain burgesses of Bristol coming to parliament appear before the council and certify that the petitioner's complaint is good and loyal and that he should have certain rents, lands, charters and muniments as his inheritance. He complains that Goterest imprisoned Joan (his late mother) in his house for more than seven weeks when he was made mayor of Bristol in year sixteen lately past, in order to obtain a rent worth £7 per year from Joan's inheritance, which rents, lands, tenements, and all the charters and muniments were taken and are still withheld from the petitioner to his great cost (more than £300) by Goterest's great malice according to the gentlemen of Bristol, willingly recorded before the council, namely by Chedder, Frampton, Blanket, Stoke, Moigne and Traci, from whom Goterest obtained a false inquest.
