- The petitioners ask to be allowed to conduct their business in the city of London. They show how they dwell in the city to service the business of the lords and merchants and pay twice each year 40s to the chamberlain of the London Guildhall, which sum they have paid for five years and more. And now the mayor and aldermen have made an order that nobody is to have brokerage in the city ... fined £100 and imprisoned for one year and other shameful decisions ... and damages contrary to the statute ordered by the parliament at York in the time ...
