Nature of request
The petitioners ask for a commission to the mayor and burgesses of Lynn granting them (under the great seal) the power to collect the rents and chattels from within the town enclosure and all other charges touching the commonality of the town, in order to support the heavy costs they have incurred for warships in the king's service, in the office of John de Roos, Admiral in those parts, and the wealthy men in arms. The port is for the defence of all Norfolk and the walls are ruinous and the ditches in need of great attention.
Nature of endorsement
Grant an order under the great seal to the mayor and gentlemen of Lynn in all such charges and in repair of the walls and ditches and all other such charges, and all the rents in the town etc., to have immunity from attack and protection through such charges and repairs etc.
