Nature of request
The petitioners seek recovery of two parts of the tithes from demesne land (late of William Peveril) that they have held since the foundation of their house in the Peak, in the parishes of Bakewell and Hope. The dean and chapter of Lichfield hold the other third and by their proctor and by many other armed men with force and arms, have taken the tithes from newly assarted land contrary to the terms of the foundation grant of the petitioners' house. In compensation they also ask the dean and chapter to grant them goods from the lands to cultivate, as from the lands [already] cultivated.
