The petitioner seeks assurance that he should not pay part of a debt that would reduce him to beggary and mendicancy forever. He shows that Clifford ordered by his bailiffs in Skipton Castle an acknowledgement by writing that the petitioner bought the garbel tithes of Gargrave, Eshton and Flasby, from Adam de Ayrminne for ... paid at Michaelmas lately past, which writing he sealed together with Richard and Adam Faunell ... the guarantors and principal debtors through the severity of their lordship and their malice by which the said Adam de Ayrminne [...] the petitioner from the said debt.
