Nature of request
The petitioners seek recovery of a rent charge of 40s per year from the manor of Ongar. They state that they have the perpetual right (established by their predecessors) to certain tithes from the said manor by the gift of Maud de Lucy, namely, tithe of bread, service, meat, fish, wax candles, and other victuals. Recently, John de Rivers (Maud's son and heir), with the agreement of the petitioners, exchanged the tithes for a perpetual rent charge of 40s per year from the said manor, of which the petitioners and their predecessors held seisin until the manor was taken into the king's hands by Audley's forfeiture.
Nature of endorsement
They are to show their title in chancery, and thereafter an inquest into the contents of the petition is to be returned and certified therein [by] the lord king.
