Nature of request
The petitioner seeks a remedy and that Adam, son of Thomas de Liddesdale, and his twelve mainpernors be summoned to answer at law for various trespasses. He shows that Adam son of Thomas bound himself (and Adam his son) by writing to Wygeton and Lyndeseye, then keepers of the king's peace in Liddesdale, under the guarantee of twelve mainpernors prepared to produce him in court subject to forfeiture. Adam son of Adam rebelled, assaulted and wounded the petitioner at Quel in Liddesdale, and then took him to Cavers Moor in Scotland and detained him, setting a ransom of fifty-four marks.
Nature of endorsement
He is to pursue the case in the presence of the steward of Scotland. The justices, Wygeton and Lyndeseye, are to come and be ordered by writ under the seal of England to establish custody and commit them (the mainpernors) to prison, according to the contents of this petition.
