Description

John Monmouth, Bishop of Llandaff.
Name(s)

Occupation
Bishop of Llandaff
Nature of request
The petitioner seeks a remedy for the Abbot of Glastonbury and his tenants of Bassaleg in Wales, who for some unknown reason have been distrained and had their goods seized and sold. He states that the Abbot made fine with Despenser in 200 marks concerning certain disputes between them in Wales, which sum the Abbot paid to Despenser and had his good quittance, whereupon Audley, supposing that the money was not paid which ought to have been paid to him, distrained the Abbot and his tenants.
Nature of endorsement
Let there be a writ for the king and the bishop and his tenants that he [Audley] ceases such distraints, because if the debt were due it would belong to the king, and let there be process.
