Petitioners
Thomas Laigine of Wiggenhall.
Name(s)
Laigine, Thomas
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The petitioner seeks the return of lands and goods wrongfully taken from him by Robert de Chalton of Lynn. He shows that Chalton and other unknown persons came to his house with force and arms and seized goods and chattels worth £40 against the king's peace. He sued at law, but was stopped in his suit through the procurement of Margery de Braston, by an accusation concerning the death of her husband. The petitioner was submitted for trial and taken to Norwich Castle. In the meantime his enemy Chalton procured Thomas Lamb, William Bort and Nicholas de Munkeberton to witness that the petitioner had defaulted on a bond, and he was committed to Newgate for seven years, suffering great hardship.
