Nature of request
The petitioner complains that the king has been hindered by false councillors, who have prevented the petitioner from recovering his goods or obtaining compensation from John Gerlof of Sluys in Flanders. The petitioner shows that a consignment of his wool worth £250 was driven into the port of Escluse by a tempest of the sea, where Gerlof took the wool on his own authority and still detains it wrongfully. The petitioner sued to the Count of Flanders, who has written letters to the king, to the Despensers, Exeter, Baldock, and others then of the king's council and the petitioner's complaint has been returned into chancery, but he has not received payment or recovered his goods.
