Nature of request
1) The petitioner seeks permission to farm the lands of [the honour of] Pontefract in the Soke of Snaith as he holds the remainder of the same after the death of Alice de Lacy, rendering their true value and more each year.2) He seeks permission to farm various lands of the Earldom of Lincoln in Lancashire as he holds the remainder of the same etc. (as 1 above)3) He seeks compensation for the unjust detention of these lands for six years and more after the death of his brother, and in the meantime requests payment of £1000 and more.4) He asks for the right to hold pleas of the forest in Yorkshire and Lancashire as in the charters of his father.5) He seeks the appointment of justices of oyer and terminer to investigate trespasses on his chases contrary to the terms of the charters.6) He asks for the delivery of the charters concerning his heritage previously held in Pontefract Castle and taken after his brother's death and still detained.1)
Nature of endorsement
Concerning the first and second points: Let him have the king's estate in the said castle, honour, lands and tenements, inspected by the justices and the king himself will scrutinize in future. 2) Concerning the third point: Let him have relief to the exchequer and dispensation up to the amount he requires, for the aforesaid reasons.3) Concerning the fourth point: it pleases the king that he should have his rights according to the charters and an oyer and terminer for the trespasses made on his chases and parks.4) Concerning the charters and muniments: the king freely brought them all to the exchequer and allows the petitioner to freely have them.
