Description

Name(s)
of Lancaster; Earl of Lancaster, Thomas
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The petitioner asks that Grelley be commanded to undo the homage he made to the king for his lands and tenements in the honour of Lancaster and [instead] give his homage to the petitioner for the said lands etc. The petitioner shows that King Henry III granted the county of Lancashire with the castle and honour and all associated homage and service to Edmund (the petitioner's father) and to Grelley (tenant of the honour), who maliciously gave homage to the king for his lands and tenements in the said honour.
Nature of endorsement
Inspect the charter in the presence of the council. It was found by the court that the father of the king granted Edmund his son the honour and county of Lancaster with knights' fees and church advowsons by final agreement.
