Nature of request
The petitioner seeks the revocation of his recent outlawry in the forest eyre of Essex. He did not appear in court through the malice and persecution of Despenser, who wished to have him hung and drawn as he had had others of the quarrel for which he was outlawed. He was of the party of the Earl of Lancaster, for which the petitioner has the testimony of the present Earl of Lancaster and Roscelin and other gentlemen, and dared not appear for fear of death.
Nature of endorsement
There is sufficient testimony that he was of the party etc., and that he appeared in court for no [other reason] than fear of death. Let him produce the record and process of his outlawry before the king and let him have redress and revocation.
