Description
Petitioners
Richard le Lacer, Citizen and Merchant of London.
Name(s)
Lacer, Richard
Addressees
The king's council.
Occupation
Citizen and Merchant of London
Nature of request
The petitioner seeks payment of a debt of £200 from the king and £100 in damages suffered through non-payment of the same. He shows that on 27 November 1331 the king's letters patent under the great seal directed the then constable of Bordeaux to promptly pay the petitioner £200 sterling in part payment of £1300 in which the king was held since the time of his father for reasons contained in the letters patent. And upon this the petitioner (on the feast of St Nicholas lately past) sent a message to his merchants in Bordeaux with the said letters patent, together with a letter from the bishop of Norwich (then the king's treasurer). The merchants waited fifteen weeks for payment, which was not forthcoming and they returned without the money, to the serious damage of the petitioner (£100).
Nature of endorsement
Let him have writs just like the others in weighty language.
