Nature of request
The petitioner and Margery his wife seek a writ from the king to Haustead for the return to them of the custody of certain lands and tenements, and arrears of twenty-one marks accrued since they were taken. The petitioner states that the king granted custody of the lands in Little Wratting formerly of Aubre de Capel to John de Sandale, who subsequently sold this to William de Gretton. Gretton in turn sold the custody to Adam and his wife, Margery, who were in peaceful seisin for one year and more until the king's escheator in Suffolk took custody and delivered it to Robert de Watevill, to hold according to the tenor of the king's commission ... Robert malevolently procured a royal charter ... inquests were held in year thirteen of the king ... Haustead, Warden of Clare Castle, took custody into the king's hands.
Nature of endorsement
These lands are in the king's hands for the trespass of Robert de Watevill who is in prison, for which [reason] the king will not respond to this petition.

Note
Datable mainly on the basis of internal references, which indicate that the petition was made around the time of the fall of Thomas of Lancaster in 1322. The petition must certainly date after 13 Edward II, the regnal year referred to in the petition.
