Nature of request
The petitioners seek forgiveness of Kirkebride's debt of £57 4s to the king's father for victuals in the Scottish wars, and payment to them of wages worth £138 19s 4d (for which they have various bills from the royal wardrobe) for his service to the king's father in the same wars. The petitioners show that Kirkebride spent his life in the service of the king's father and grandfather in the Scottish wars and in guarding the marches and Carlisle, from which service he was disfigured and in debt.
