Description
Petitioners
Nicholas de Kyllum, son of Michael de Kyllum
Name(s)
de Kyllum, Nicholas
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
The petitioner asks the king to restore to him lands and tenements in the vill of Kilham worth nine marks per year that were freely held by his father and for which he has given homage (without reservation) to the chief lord of the fee, Robert de Lisle of Wark. After the death of the petitioner's father, Lisle conspired in the eyre to deprive the petitioner of his lands etc., taking them into his hands and granting them to his own brother, John, who then alienated them to a stranger thus depriving the petitioner of his rightful inheritance.
Nature of endorsement
[None]
Places mentioned
Kyllum (Kilham), [Northumberland]
Werk (Wark), [Northumberland]
People mentioned
Michael de Kyllum, father of the petitioner
Robert de Lisle of Wark
John [de Lisle]
Note
The grant made to the petitioner's father was in 1284 (CPR 1281-92, p. 123) so it is unlikely that the petition dates from as soon as 1285, as suggested on the guard; a more impressionistic is offered here in the absence of other evidence.
