Nature of request
The petitioners ask that they be excused various taxes levied by the exchequer that are contrary to the terms of the charter granted to them by the king's father. They claim to be perpetually exempt from all manner of taxes, aids, fifteenths, etc., as of a franchise by the terms of their charter. Since the enactment of statutes in year fourteen of the king (1340) writs have been served on them by the exchequer contrary to the terms of their charter.
Nature of endorsement
Let a writ be made to the treasurer and barons of the exchequer that they view the said charter and make them quit of all charges in accordance with the tenor of the charter, against any orders to the contrary.
