de Kilpin, William

Nature of request
The petitioner asks that the king grant him an allowance for his goods worth £75 6s 8d (including the hides of wild animals and various victuals) that were loaded on board a ship in Scotland when the petitioner was there in the company of Gaveston. The ship headed for London and when it passed Newbiggin it was robbed and towed into the port. John le Clerk came and placed the goods in a house as the king's escheator, and later by the common council of the town an inquest was held and it was decided that if nobody claimed the goods within a year and a day then the goods should be theirs. The petitioner came to Newbiggin within the month and their claim was thus made void. He also requests that the goods be moved to Berwick using the king's mariners, where the petitioner now resides in poverty.
