The petitioner seeks recovery for his church of an annual payment of ten marks for the castle of Kildare (which is built on church land) because he cannot distrain for it as his predecessors had done. He shows that the payment was made by Vescy and his ancestors until a dispute arose between Vescy and bishop Nicholas (the petitioner's predecessor) about other things in the county of Kildare and Vescy arbitrarily withheld payment for three years before the death of bishop Nicholas. John Wogan and other officials found that the payment had not been made since Kildare came into the king's hands and refused to allow payment without orders from the king.
