- The petitioners request that the Abbot of Crowland constructs a causeway for wagons and horses three leagues in length between the Brotherhouse ... for travellers passing from the town of Spalding and the regions of Holland, by Crowland, towards Stamford and Kesteven ... and Northsire and elsewhere to escape the great dangers that threaten travellers between the said towns, as ordered by the king's writ to the Abbot, which is attached to this petition.
- Nature of endorsement
- Let certain loyal gentlemen be assigned to enquire of the king's losses in the presence of the Abbot and men of the region, as he is to grant the Abbot all such customs and profits for seven years for the construction of the causeway and after seven years other customs requested by the Abbot. The commission is also to enquire into the cost of seven years work on the causeway and maintenance costs etc. And to return the results of their enquiry.
