The Burgesses of Carmarthen

Nature of request
The petitioners seek the king's aid in the maintenance of Carmarthen as a viable port for themselves and for the king, because ships laden with wine from the south that came to the port now withdraw because of a new custom called the gauge (which was never levied before in the time of any king) and unload at Haverfordwest, Pembroke, Tenby, and Swansea, and all around where there is no gauge.
