Nature of request
The petitioner requests that he should be allowed expenses of £53 1s 11d on his account as chamberlain of South Wales, because he was ordered by the king's writ to maintain all his castles in South Wales and by reason of this command he loaded a ship at Haverfordwest with various victuals worth the aforesaid sum (for the garrisons of the castles), but the king's Scottish enemies intercepted the ship en route for Llanbadarn Fawr and Cardigan on the high seas, captured the ship and victuals and killed the crew.
Nature of endorsement
The petitioner is to show the king's orders in chancery, which is to view the same and appoint trustworthy men to enquire into the contents of the petition. If this enquiry verifies the same an order is to be made to the treasurer and barons of the exchequer that the petitioner's debt be allowed.
