Description
Petitioners
Emma de Kent, lately the wife of John de Kent
Name(s)
de Kent, Emma
Addressees
King
Nature of request
The petitioner seeks the return of the manor of Dysart in Ireland. She states that Ralph Pippard jointly enfeoffed her with her husband of the manor of Dysart in return for 100s per year to Ralph who granted the rent to his son John, who then held the services of the petitioner and her husband for seven years. Ralph then came to the eyre of Drogheda in the thirty-first year of the king and before Lenfaunt, Littlebury, Bridgewater and Alexander (justices itinerant), brought a writ of cessavit per biennium against John de Kent without naming the petitioner while John was imprisoned in England without an attorney, and so Ralph Pippard recovered Dysart by the default of John de Kent, but Ralph had granted all his lands in Ireland to the king in exchange for lands in England a good half year before the Drogheda eyre. Ralph's attorney, Neel le Brun (after wrongfully recovering Dysart in the eyre), handed it to the king to keep it away from the petitioner and her heirs.
Nature of endorsement
She is to sue before Roger le Brabazon and his associates that the petitioner may be heard before them and let justice be done and she is to send to parliament for the record and proceedings etc.
