Nature of request
The petitioner requests that he should hold his office for life because of the various hardships that he and other gentlemen of the country have suffered. The petitioner has various tradesmen residing at the castle (one mason, one plummer, one carpenter) whose work there has cost £1000, which the petitioner cannot raise himself. They also have a certain number of servants and prisoners and thereby have built a curtain wall (pel) of large timbers adjacent to the castle of more than ten furlongs in length for the greater defence of the castle, which timber the petitioner has paid for out of his own income.

Let an order be made under the great seal of the treasurer and barons of the exchequer to enquire into the truth of the facts in this petition, and the petitioner is to be called into their presence to render his account.
