Nature of request
The executors of the testament of John, Bishop of Carlisle, state that the king owes him £169 19s. 3d. for wool bought from him by Edward I, and that the king previously sent a writ to the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer asking them to make an allowance for this in the debts owed by the bishop to the king, but that nothing was done about this in the bishop's lifetime. They request that the bishop's debts to the king might now be allowed against this sum, and payment made of any money remaining.
Nature of endorsement
They are to have a writ of Chancery to the Treasurer and Barons as before, on the tenor of the first writ, or they are to signify the reason why etc.

John of Halton, Bishop of Carlisle, died on 1 November 1324. As the petition refers to Edward I as the father of the present king, the petition must date from 1324-1327.
