Nature of request
The people of Carlisle state that the king has given them a sum of money from the farms of the town for their aid and relief, and ask that certain people might be ordained to audit the accounts of the farmers and receivers of this money and to oversee how it is spent, and to see that they do justice to all.
Nature of endorsement
Andrew de Hartcla, Hugh de Burgo and Robert de Barton, or two of them, are to be appointed for this.

Dated on the guard to 'c.1312-22' with reference to CPR 1313-7 pp.240 & 241, and CPR 1317-21 pp.370 & 466 & 542-3, and CPR 1321-4 p.37, which attest to the appointment of the three men named to various commissions in those years; the petition presumably dates from before the elevation of Harcla to the earldom of Carlisle in 1322.
