Nature of request
The clergy of the Diocese of Carlisle complain that although their churches have been burnt down and destroyed in the Scottish war, certain ancient tithes granted to the king's ancestors by Pope Clement are now being demanded of them. They request to be pardoned these, as old debts have been pardoned to the community of the March which is in similar case; or that some suitable remedy might be ordained for them.

CCR 1327-30 p.48 is dated 8 March 1327, and appears to be in response to this petition. Rot. Parl. vol.II p.433 is stated to be a summary of a petition from 1327, and seems likely to be of this one.
