People of Carlisle
Addressees
King
Nature of request
The people of Carlisle request a pardon of £100 worth of provisions which they took from the king for their own use when they were guarding their city from Scottish attack during the last war, before the battle of Berwick, and an allowance for the 500 marks they spent on the defence of the city, as they took the whole defence upon themselves, without making any charge on the king.
Nature of endorsement
They are to have respite until next Michaelmas; and in the meantime they are to sue to the king.
Places mentioned
Carlisle, [Cumberland]
Scotland
Berwick upon Tweed, [Northumberland]
Note
Dated on the guard to '?? 1324' with reference to C 49/5/12 and CPR 1324-7 p.202. CPR 1324-7 p.202, however, is a pardon for the farm of the city for two years, and is not relevant, and C 49/5/12 refers to SC 8/54/2685. However, the petition would appear to date from around that time.
